Weddings should be all about love, love, love, and fun, fun, fun, but it doesn’t always turn out that way. Sometimes, the bride is given something of a headache; specifically, which of their friends or family members gets to be one of their bridesmaids?
While you can’t have all of the people you love by your side on your wedding day, you can ensure that everyone feels involved by including them in other ways.
Below, we take a look at seven ideas for keeping everyone you know and love happy...at least in theory. So lets jump into these 7 Ways to Include Friends and Family in Your Wedding Planning:
The Dress
The big day is great, but that’s more or less just a day for fun: the build-up is when all the important things happen, and they don’t get any bigger than the dress. Visiting wedding dress shops will be one of the most special days of your life, and you’ll be delighting anyone that you ask to go with you. If you have someone close to you who isn’t your bridesmaid, ask them to attend - you can make a whole day of it, with dresses, wine, and food all part of the fun.
Added Details
The dress is far from the only decision that you’ll be making. There’s also the matter of the venue, invites, food, logistics, and about a million and one other things. It’s much more to have a friend by your side when you’re taking care of all these details, and they’ll love to be involved!
You could have your friend visit your home and design custom-made invitations like you can at Pure Invitation wedding invites. You could take them along when you go to visit venues and ask for their opinion on whether they think it’s suitable. And perhaps it goes without saying, but they’ll love you forever and ever if you take them to any food tastings!
Keep Them Informed
You’re going to have a lot of guests who will simply show up on the day, not knowing what to expect. Your closest friends want to be more involved in the process; you’re one of their nearest and dearest, they don’t want to be kept in the dark like one of your work colleagues.
Even if you don’t need them to help with all that much of the planning, you can still keep them informed of the progress you’re making. Everyone likes to feel in the loop!
A Special Role
You can also use your friend’s willingness to help to your own advantage, all the while getting them involved. For example, what if your friend has a knack for something in particular, something that you don’t have a clue about? Take the music.
You might dread putting together a party playlist that’ll keep everyone on the dancefloor all night, but your friend with the never-ending back catalogue of music? That’s their forte. If it’s something they’re passionate about, they’ll be honored that you’ve asked - even if you’re mainly doing it for your own benefit!
Invite Them to Give a Reading
Your close friends might not be by your side when you’re getting married, but they can still be a part of the day. Why not ask them to give a reading to all the guests? It can be something that they wrote or something that you’ve selected to be read.
This is actually, arguably, better than being involved in the wedding in a more direct way - they don’t have all the responsibility of being a bridesmaid, yet may be responsible for people shedding a tear. Now that’s beautiful.
The Pre-Wedding Party
If you’ve put so much time into planning your wedding day, then you won’t want it just to take place over one day. It should be multiple days! And especially in the days running up to it. You’ll likely have a wedding rehearsal (to which your friend should most definitely be invited!), but what about everything else? You may be getting your hair done, relaxing, everything else - it’s one big party, and you can make your friends feel extra special by inviting them to be involved.
Time Aside on the Big Day
Your wedding day is going to pass you by in a blur. You’ll be nervous, you’ll be greeting everyone you know, the food will come, and then you’ll dance. Still, though it’ll all go by super quickly, make sure your taking some time to show your appreciation to the people you know and love best. Give them a mention in a speech, or simply take them aside to thank them for all their efforts.
