I have a secret for you! I know the exact formula for keeping your bed sheets bright white and I am going to share it with you in this post!!
You may think it is complicated keeping your sheets bright white but it's really not. And the products are ingredients used are ones you may already have in your home!
The Secret to Keeping Your Bed Sheets Bright White:
High Quality Laundry Detergent
This is a no-brainer but I thought it was important to add it to #1 on the list here. You really get what you pay for. If you buy keep laundry detergent it will not clean your sheets as well.
I ran into this problem when I first had my daughter. I tried to use natural and hypoallergenic EVERYTHING including our laundry detergent.. but nothing cleaned their clothes. Stains, dirt, food, drool, ordors .. literally, nothing came out of their clothes! I am not saying you can't use this type of laundry detergent, but I am saying you may not be getting that bright white look you are after with natural or hypoallergenic detergent.
The regular laundry detergent I use is the Tide Pods with downy. Yes, the pods are a little more expensive when you are doing calculations, but for us, we actually save more money with the pods because we put the proper and exact amount of detergent necessary for our laundry load whereas with the liquid, for some reason we always seemed to use too much and would fly through a jug SO fast. So gauge it based on your family but we really like the pods or just regular detergent!
Vinegar
Vinegar is a surprising ingredient that works wonders on laundry especial white linens and white duvet covers!. It's acidity actually softens and strips the fibres leaving the sheets feeling soft and look extra clean. I highly recommend adding between ¼ to ½ cup of vinegar into your fabric softener compartment on your washing machine. I like to use white distilled vinegar. If you are worried about vinegar smell, you can add less but I don't even notice it!I have also heard of people using lemon juice/citric acid but I just found the vinegar works way better.
Dawn Dish Soap
Ok so originally I saw this trick on TikTok, I do not remember who it was so I am sorry for not giving you direct credit but I just had to share this with you all! If you take a face cloth and shirt a bit of dawn dish soap on it and then throw that face cloth into the wash with your sheets, it brings new life to them!! I swear by this method now. Dawn dish soap is so amazing for so many things, but this... leave me speechless! I will never wash my bedding again without it!
Baking Soda
Baking soda works magic on all yellow stains, odours, makeup and dirt! It also lessens the look of dingy aged sheets! It is a great natural option for brightening your bedding and bringing the white back! I sprinkle about ½ cup of pure baking soda onto my sheets every time I wash them!
Bleach
If all else fails I would try adding a little oxygen safe bleach alternative. I love and swear by this All-Purpose Bleach Alternative from LaundryPress! It gives your bedding an extra boost of clean, brightening and whitening! It works wonders to safely remove dirt, stains, and odours. Not sponsored, I just love their products and found them through the blogger Clean Mama who also loves LaundryPress products!
NO Fabric Softener
Yes, you read that right, you dont want to use fabric softener if you are wanting your white sheets to look white. If you have any other colour bedding, feel free to use fabric softener just not on your whites.
Why? Because fabric softener actually leaves a slight residue on your sheets to make them extra soft, that residue can actually look slightly yellow when using on white fabrics. If you love the scent of fabric softener and are sad to go without it, try adding a few drops of essential oils to your washing machine. My favourite is lavender!
