Dot Cake Recipe

This viral dot cake recipe is made with soft vanilla cake, creamy buttercream frosting, and colorful rainbow dot sprinkles layered in cute mason jars.

Ingredients
  

Cake

  • 1 batch vanilla cake baked and cooled completely (see notes)

Buttercream Frosting

  • 1 Cup butter softened.
  • 3-4 Cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2-4 tablespoon milk or heavy cream

Toppings

  • Rainbow Dot Sprinkles

Instructions
 

  • Bake the vanilla cake according to your recipe instructions and allow it to cool completely.
  • Make the buttercream frosting by beating the softened butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar gradually, then mix in vanilla, salt, and milk or cream until fluffy.
  • Cut the cooled cake into small circles or crumble it into bite-sized pieces.
  • Add a layer of cake to the bottom of each mason jar.
  • Pipe or spoon a layer of buttercream frosting over the cake.
  • Repeat with another layer of cake and frosting until the jars are filled.
  • Finish each jar with a thick layer of buttercream on top.
  • Cover the top with rainbow dot sprinkles.
  • Serve immediately or cover and refrigerate until ready to enjoy.

Notes

  • Make sure the cake is fully cooled before assembling.
  • Add sprinkles right before serving for the brightest look.
  • Store covered in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Let chilled jars sit at room temperature for 10–15 minutes before serving.
  • This recipe can be made with vanilla cake, funfetti cake, chocolate cake, or cupcakes.
