Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper
  • Rolling pin (optional)

Ingredients

For the Sourdough Pizza Dough

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose or bread flour
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Toppings

  • ½–¾ cup pizza sauce
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 2 large black olives for eyes
  • 2 slices pepperoni optional, for cheeks
  • 1 small triangle orange bell pepper for nose
  • 4-6 thin strips green bell pepper for whiskers
  • 2-3 olive slices for mouth
  • Fresh basil optional garnish

Instructions

  • Make the Dough. In a large bowl, mix the active sourdough starter and warm water until mostly combined. Add flour, salt, and olive oil. Stir until a shaggy dough forms. Knead for 5–8 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and allow to ferment at room temperature for 4–8 hours, or until slightly puffy.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Shape Bunny - Roll the dough into a large circle for the bunny face. Divide a small portion of dough and shape two elongated ears. Attach ears firmly to the top of the circle, pinching seams well. Place on prepared baking sheet.
  • Spread pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a small crust border. Add shredded mozzarella evenly across the top. For the ears, add a thin line of sauce down the center and top with cheese.
  • Decorate Face - Add olives for eyes, pepperoni slices for cheeks, green bell pepper strips for whiskers, orange bell pepper for nose, and olive slices for the mouth.
  • Bake - Bake for 15–18 minutes, or until the crust is golden and cheese is melted and bubbly. Allow to cool slightly before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a healthier version, substitute half the flour with whole wheat flour.
  • Use low-sugar pizza sauce for a more wholesome option.
  • Dough can be made the day before and refrigerated overnight.
  • Leftovers store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
