Choose Your Cat Pumpkin Stencil
The collection ranges from simple solid shapes to graceful outline drawings. Solid silhouettes and separate facial features work well for traditional cut-through carving. Fine outline cats are usually better for shallow surface etching or for simplifying into a bolder traced shape.
1. Seated Cat With Long Tail

This side-facing cat has a calm seated pose and a long tail stretching across the page. The fine outline suits careful tracing or shallow etching on a medium or large pumpkin.
2. Front-Facing Black Cat Silhouette

This bold, symmetrical black cat is one of the easiest patterns to recognize after dark. It is a good starting choice if you want a classic Halloween cat with a strong glowing shape.
3. Elegant Seated Cat Outline

This tall seated cat has a gently curled tail and a graceful profile. Use a smooth pumpkin so the long curves are easier to transfer.
4. Cat Sitting With Curled Tail

This compact sitting cat creates a clean silhouette without many small details. It can be enlarged for a large porch pumpkin or reduced for a smaller pumpkin.
5. Stretching Cat Outline

A cat stretching forward with its tail held high adds movement to a row of carved pumpkins. The legs and belly require slower tracing, so this design is better for a patient adult carver.
6. Lounging Cat Outline

This relaxed cat lies low with its tail extending to the side. The wide horizontal shape fits best on a broad pumpkin with a generous smooth area.
7. Curvy Seated Cat Outline

This simple side-facing cat uses soft curves and a lifted tail. Etch the outline for a delicate look or simplify the shape before cutting through.
8. Cat Viewed From Behind

This sweet back-facing cat has a centered body and a long tail. Its balanced shape looks especially cute beside a moon, stars or another animal pumpkin.
9. Seated Cat With Wrapped Tail

This seated cat turns slightly to the side with its tail wrapped around its paws. The compact design works well on a medium pumpkin.
10. Walking Cat Outline

This walking cat has a curled tail and an easy-to-recognize profile. Give the legs enough space when transferring the design so the narrow sections stay sturdy.
11. Fluffy Standing Cat

This standing cat has a fuller body and a long tail extending behind it. The soft outline makes it a cozy choice for a farmhouse Halloween display.
12. Playful Kitten Outline

This playful kitten bends forward with its tail raised. The pose is adorable, but the small leg and face details are best handled with etching or careful adult carving.
13. Cat Walking With Tail Up

This long walking cat has a raised tail and an open, simple profile. Place it across the widest part of a larger pumpkin for the clearest result.
14. Simple Cat Nose and Whiskers

This minimal cat face uses a tiny nose, mouth and six whiskers. It is quick to transfer and a cute choice for a small pumpkin or no-carve marker design.
15. Heart Nose Cat Face

A heart-shaped nose and curved smile give this cat face a sweet expression. Use the printed shapes as separate cut or etched areas rather than trying to remove one large section.
16. Bold Black Cat Face

This graphic cat face has pointed ears, almond-shaped eyes and a tiny nose. The large silhouette creates dramatic contrast, while the eyes need careful placement.
17. Cute Whiskered Cat Face

This friendly face combines thick brows, a round nose and curved whiskers. It works well as an etched design or as a simple painted pumpkin for children.
18. Peeking Cat From the Side

A black cat peeks around a vertical edge in this playful pattern. Position the straight edge near a pumpkin ridge or off-center for a fun surprise.
19. Kitten Peeking Over an Edge

This wide design shows a kitten holding onto an edge with its paws while its tail curls upward. It makes a charming front-facing pumpkin, especially when the eyes and paws are etched.
20. Cat Profile Face

This side-profile cat has pointed ears, one eye and fine whiskers. The clean portrait style suits surface etching on a smooth, pale or orange pumpkin.
Carving with younger children? Let them choose and transfer a design while an adult handles the cutting, or use one of my pumpkin carving stencils for kids as a no-carve marker or paint template.
Supplies for Using the Cat Stencils
- A pumpkin with one smooth, fairly flat side
- Pumpkin Carving Kit - Includes small saws, scrapers, and pokers designed specifically for precision cuts. Perfect for intricate stencils like the Detailed Feathered Owl or Intricate Night Owl.
- Serrated Pumpkin Saw or X-Acto Knife - A must-have for clean, controlled cuts, especially around delicate shapes like feathers or beaks.
- Pushpin or Thumbtack - Used to poke the stencil design into your pumpkin before carving.
- Painter's Tape - Holds your stencil in place without damaging the pumpkin skin, making it easier to work with curved surfaces.
- Large Spoon or Pumpkin Scoop - Helps remove seeds and pulp quickly and thin the pumpkin walls for easier carving.
- Cutting Board or Non-Slip Mat - Keeps your pumpkin steady while you work.
- LED Tea Lights or Fairy Lights - A safer alternative to candles that still give your owl pumpkin a warm, glowing effect.
- Optional: Printer & Cardstock - Printing your stencil on thicker paper makes it easier to handle and reuse year after year.
Regular printer paper usually bends around a pumpkin more easily than cardstock. If you are using a stencil only as a flat tracing template for a craft, cardstock can make it more durable.
How to Print the Cat Pumpkin Stencil PDF
1. Download the PDF. Open the complete 20-page cat stencil file and save it to your device.
2. Choose your page. Enter the page number for the pattern you want, or select all pages to print the full set.
3. Set the orientation. Use landscape orientation and standard US Letter paper.
4. Choose the size. Select Actual Size for the full-page version or Custom Scale to make the design smaller.
5. Check the preview. Make sure the full cat design appears inside the printable area before printing in black and white.
A smaller pumpkin may work better with the stencil printed around 70% to 85%. Adobe explains how to use Actual Size, Fit and Custom Scale when printing a PDF, so you can adjust the percentage to suit the smooth area on your pumpkin.
How to Transfer and Carve a Cat Pumpkin Pattern
1. Prepare the pumpkin. Wash and dry it, cut an opening, and remove the seeds and pulp. Scrape the inside wall behind the design slightly thinner if it is difficult to cut, but do not weaken it.
2. Attach the stencil. Tape the paper to the smoothest side. Make a few small relief cuts around the outer paper edge if needed so it can overlap and follow the curve.
3. Transfer the lines. Use a pushpin or transfer wheel to make closely spaced holes along the printed lines. Remove the paper and connect faint areas with a washable marker.

4. Choose carving or etching. Cut through the black areas on bold silhouettes and separate facial features. For thin outline drawings, scrape only the outer skin along the lines or simplify the outline before cutting.
5. Start with small details. An adult should work slowly with a small serrated pumpkin saw, moving from the smallest features toward larger sections so the pumpkin stays supported.
6. Clean the edges. Gently remove loose pieces and wipe away marker lines with a damp cloth. Avoid forcing a piece that is still attached.
7. Add a safe light. Place a battery-operated LED tea light inside and check the design in a dim room before displaying it.
Safety note: Small children should decorate rather than carve, and adults should handle all cutting tools. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends leaving pumpkin carving and cutting to adults and suggests a battery-operated flameless candle, flashlight or glow stick instead of an open flame.
How to Read the Different Cat Stencil Styles
- Solid black silhouettes: Remove or etch the black area. A full cut-through shape produces the brightest glow, but large openings need careful support while carving.
- Separate black facial features: Treat each eye, nose, mouth or whisker group as its own carved or etched section.
- Thin outline drawings: Trace the printed line, then etch a shallow groove for the most faithful result. Cutting away every thin line can create fragile pieces.
- No-carve pumpkins: Use the stencil as a guide with washable markers, paint pens or child-safe paint.

Troubleshooting Your Pumpkin Stencil
- The paper will not lie flat. Cut small notches around the outside edge of the paper and overlap them as you tape. Do not cut into the printed design.
- The transfer dots are hard to see. Connect them lightly with a washable marker before carving.
- The design is too large. Reprint it using a lower custom scale percentage instead of trimming important features from the page.
- A thin section starts to bend. Stop cutting that area and switch to shallow etching, or leave a small bridge of pumpkin intact.
- The outline design does not glow enough. Etch a little deeper and test it with the LED light before removing more pumpkin.

Yes. Open the print dialog and enter the page number for the design you want instead of printing all 20 pages.
Regular printer paper is the easiest choice because it bends around the curved pumpkin. Cardstock is more durable, but it is harder to wrap smoothly.
Choose Custom Scale in your PDF print settings and reduce the percentage. Check the print preview before printing so the entire pattern stays on the page.
For solid designs and separate facial features, carve or etch the black areas. For thin outline cats, follow the printed line with shallow etching or simplify it into a wider cut line.
The front-facing black cat silhouette on page 2 and the simple nose-and-whiskers design on page 14 have the boldest, least complicated shapes.
Children can choose a pattern, help tape it in place, transfer dots with close supervision, or use it for a no-carve marker or paint project. An adult should handle all cutting tools.
Yes. For personal projects, the cat outlines can also guide paper crafts, window art, signs, or no-carve painted pumpkins.
