Use Wood for Styling a Farmhouse Kitchen
To get that natural farmhouse style look it’s important that you use wood throughout your kitchen. The cabinet doors should be made out of wood, you should have a nice big butcher’s block cutting board on the counter, and you should have a few wooden decorations scattered throughout the room. A wooden cookbook stand is also a fantastic addition. Even if you get all your recipes online these days it’s a great place to prop up your phone.
Decorate With the Tools You Use
Instead of hiding away all your wooden spoons, spatulas, and other tools keep them out in a couple of cute pitchers on the counter. You can also hang your cast iron pans on the wall as additional decoration. Not only are you making it easy for you to use those things, but they also look great. So don’t be afraid to hang up your pots and pans and keep your favorite spices on a little spice rack where they’re easy to reach.
Flowers on the Curtains
A gorgeous flower print for the curtains in your kitchen is the perfect way to tie the whole room together. The color you decide to go with for your walls should be represented in the pattern somewhere, either as the color of the flowers or the color of the fabric the flowers are printed on. If flowers aren’t really your style then you can also go with a gingham curtain, that’s the print that picnic table covers are in, as well as Dorothy’s dress in The Wizard of Oz.
Live Plants in the Window
If you have a little bit of space right in front of your window and on the windowsill you should try growing some of your favorite herbs. Chives, rosemary, and thyme are some of the most versatile and easiest to grow. Not only will they add a bit of color, but they will also give the kitchen a delicious smell.
Colors
Having a few splashes of color in your farmhouse style kitchen is what brings the whole thing together. There are really three colors that are traditionally used in this style to paint the walls; pale blue, yellow, and white. Which one you want to use is entirely up to you, but keep in mind if you do decide to go with white, it will require a whole lot more cleaning than other colors. Also, if you do go for white, pick an off shade like eggshell white which isn’t pure white and gives your room a little bit more of a lived-in feel.
Other Décor Ideas for Farmhouse Kitchens
When was the last time you saw a breadbox? Possibly not since your Grandparents? Or maybe you have one already. A good breadbox will not only help save your bread from going bad but it also serves as a great countertop decorative piece. Chickens and cows are also great things to have in your farmhouse kitchen. A chicken cookie jar perhaps or a planter shaped like a cow. The possibilities are endless.
