Hi Beauties!
Lately I have been craving hot chocolate like a crazy pregnant lady. Why? No idea. Maybe it is the cold weather or maybe it is the Christmas season.. either way, this girl is constantly starting the kettle for a mug of chocolatey goodness.
With that being said, I know hot chocolate isn't the best thing for us. But I cant help that my cravings are out of control. So just like any other person who tries to follow a healthy lifestyle, I started experimenting with healthier hot chocolate options. I didn't want to use a powder from a can to make my hot chocolate anymore.
So I started playing around with ingredients and this is the concoction I have come up with and OMG it is actually amazing. Like over the top, better then Starbucks (yes I said it), delicious creamy and spiked with a beautiful hit of peanut butter.
For all the peanut butter fans out there, you know that chocolate and peanut butter is a heavenly mixture, which is why one day I decided to add it into my hot chocolate and I am so happy I did. Sounds odd, but don't knock it until you try it!!
So with that being said, lets jump into this Dairy Free Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate recipe!
Ingredients in Peanut Butter Hot Chocolate:
- Unsweetened Cocoa Powder: I always have a tin of this on hand in my pantry for all my baking recipes. I love how smooth this cocoa powder is and doesn't ever get clumpy!
- Peanut Butter: You can use what ever peanut butter you would like in this recipe, I had a natural peanut butter on hand so that is what I used and it melted nicely into the hot chocolate!
- Pure Maple Syrup: Maple syrup has always been my go to for a natural sweetener. I use it all the time in my overnight oat recipes.
- Unsweetened Almond Milk: This almond milk is a staple in my fridge. I always buy the 6 pack from Costco and always have it on hand.
- Coconut Whip Cream (optional): I loved the fun of having some coconut whipped cream on top!
I love the combination of these ingredients because not one ingredient really stands out. They all combine together so nicely to make such a perfect creamy blend of peanut butter hot chocolate.
How to make this vegan hot chocolate:
- Bring the almond milk to a simmer on low heat in a sauce pan.
- Slowly stir in the peanut butter and maple syrup so it melts completely. I used a whisk to make sure all the peanut butter clumps were completely dissolved
- Whisk in cocoa powder. If your cocoa powder is older, you may need to swift it in to make sure there are no clumps before you add it to the hot almond milk.
- Pour into mugs and add toppings!
And there you have it!
Simple yet mouth watering. An easy dairy free peanut butter hot chocolate the entire family will love! It will be hot so be careful, especially if you are serving it to kids!
Also, just a random side note, I had it in one of my YETI Ramblers the other day when we had to go for a drive the other day... and it took FOREVER to cool down enough to drink. Literally took 1.5 hours before I could tolerate it. I was pretty sad about it, and also burnt my tongue which was no fun. SO if you are planning to take it somewhere and you have a heavy duty to-go mug... make sure you let it cool down before adding it to that mug. Ha! Lessons LEARNED.
Anyways, that's all I have for you today in this post!
