Hi Beauties!
Lets talk about Essential Playroom Must Haves For A Toddler today! Why? Because I am currently working on putting together our new playroom for the basement. I am so excited to finally have a safe and dedicated play room for our daughters.
With winter coming, I am worried about losing the option for our girls to get outside and play. Winters here get super cold (minus 10 degrees Celsius on a regular basis!) so it will be too cold to get outside. So we needed to come up with an alternative for our girls to get active and blow off some energy.
So just like all my great ideas, I hit Pinterest for inspiration! And boy oh boy it didn't disappoint. I found so many great Essential Playroom Must Haves For A Toddler and ideas for our basement playroom and I cant wait to share them with you in this post!
In this post you will read all about toys, furniture, storage and all other essentials. All the things you should include in your toddler's playroom to fuel their creativity and imagination!
Lets just jump right into the post now shall we?!

Here are Essential Playroom Must Haves For A Toddler:
Toy Station
A dedicated area for all those toys! I know you may be thinking that a playroom should be completely filled with toys, but that's not necessarily true. Sometimes it is a good idea to rotate toys in and out so your children don't get over whelmed and get excited when they see the "new" (but really old) toys.
Have an area in your toddler's playroom where you can store toys, put away toys and display toys. My favourite toy station by far is using the KALLAX shelving unit by IKEA. It is the best band for your buck by far. It is safe, sturdy, and easy to create a toy station that not only looks good but also is easily accessible for those little toddlers! These fabric cube bins from Amazon fit perfectly into those KALLAX shelving units!
You will also need to have some baskets or bins to put in the shelving unit to hide those unused toys or to keep groups of toys together. Kids also love digging through those bins to find toys but sometimes they can become overwhelming so I suggest keeping the toys to a minimum in those bins!
There are so many great toys out there so I don't want to go into details on what toys you should have in a play room but some that I definitely suggest would be puzzles, sensory toys, a ride toy, imagination or role play toys, dress up trunk, and building blocks. Of course there are so many more toys you can add to your play room but those are just some of the ones that always seem to be a hit at our house!
Reading Nook for Books
A reading nook is a definite must-haves for a toddler playroom. Why? Because believe it or not, toddlers love books!! They may not be able to read yet but they love the looking at the photos or using those interactive touch and feel books!
Having a little area dedicated to books is also a great way to end a play session, some wind down time before a nap or bedtime. You can even had a comfy area to cuddle up with your child and a good book! These teepee tents or canopies are a great reading nook addition!
Arts and Crafts Table
An arts and crafts table or desk is a definite must haves for a toddler playroom! Having a dedicated area for all crayons, paints, coloring books, and stickers is not only a way to keep your space organized but it also allows you to keep the mess to a minimum. There are so many cute options out there for a great arts and crafts table. You can see some of the examples I found down below!
Some things you should include in your arts and crafts area are paper towels, crafts place mat, painting apron, crafting kit, washable paint kit, no spill paint cups, crayons, washable markers, construction paper and coloring books!
I love how organized this arts and craft table is. Everything is literally perfectly organized even down to the crayon colors.. I mean it wouldn't last in our house but definitely looks good for a picture!
There is so much perfection about this playroom! I love the way they added easel paper to this table for easy access. But my other favourite part about this room is that they used their child's art work as decor on the wall. Framing finger paintings and crayon drawings really makes them look classy and chic! Who would have thought I would be saying that about a two year olds masterpiece!
If a craft area isn't something you have space for but still want to give your toddler an area that they can color or draw, I would suggest getting an easel. They take up minimal room and it is something you can also store away in a closet and bring out when its time for some art work to be created!
Cute Decor
Cute decor is by far the most fun part of putting together a playroom for kids.. at least for me! I had so many adorable ideas I wanted to include that were not only cute but also functional like a chalk wall! I like the idea of making things colourful but also keeping it simple. I want our playroom to appeal to both adults and kids! Adding a rug that is cozy and some shelves for storing bins, also some hooks to hang whatever is necessary are all musts!
Here are some of the inspiration photos I found on Pinterest below!
I love love love the chalk wall in this photo. I think it is such a cute addition to a play room if you have a blank wall you need to fill! Also enjoying the over all feel of this room. Its nice not having loud crazy colors and having a more minimalistic vibe.
I like a lot about this decor scheme here. The swing chair is a must, how much fun would that be for a toddler! Hopefully they can keep it in control haha and the simple accent wall using wall decals keeps the room light and bright while bringing interest.
This pikler triangle is a great Montessori climbing toy to have in your playroom! My husband and I are building one for the girls Christmas present this year so stay tuned to see that DIY tutorial! And the Nugget couch is also a must have. That might be next Christmas gift!
Other Essentials
Some other essentials for your toddler playroom would be some key furniture pieces. Like I mentioned above, having a nugget couch or bean bag chair is a great way to add some comfy seating for when you need a little break. They also second as some fun toys for forts and diving into!
Dont forget the big ticket items too like this beautiful kitchen. And also a place for tummy time if you have a younger baby in the home too.
