I've been thinking about the future, and we're psyched to share our predictions for next year's kitchen trends with you. I know that you're probably busy thinking about holiday plans and what to get your friend who loves cooking (but hates shopping) for Christmas, but I thought this would be a good time to tell you about some of the big ideas in the industry that have us excited for 2023
- First off, there's going to be an emphasis on wellness—from cooking practices to diet tips. If you want to start taking better care of yourself and your family, this is going to be an exciting year for all of us.
- Secondly, there will be more focus on storage than ever before. In addition to being more eco-friendly by using less plastic containers and bags in general, this means that we'll see more products with reusable containers or bags attached so they can go straight into your recycling bin when they've served their purpose!
- Finally, there will be even more focus on sustainability than ever before. This means less packaging waste overall as well as more conscious decisions about buying only what is necessary for each meal (no more extra ingredients cluttering up your cabinets).
For many of us, kitchens are the hub of the home. They’re a space where we can cook for our family and friends, entertain guests and live out our day-to-day lives with our loved ones. If you’re planning to redo your kitchen in the near future, here are some kitchen trends set to emerge in the new year.
Kitchen Trends of 2023
Is It Time For an Upgrade?
Deciding to take the leap and upgrade your kitchen is no easy decision. Not only is it a significant investment but you’ll also need to be prepared for a period of disruption while work is underway. That said, if you’ve been living with a tired, dated kitchen that you don’t enjoy spending time in, 2023 could be the year to make changes and improvements to finally get the kitchen you’ve been dreaming about.
What Will Be Next Year’s Kitchen Trends?

Round kitchen islands
One of my top picks is round kitchen islands. These are great because they offer a lot more space than a traditional square island and they look really sleek. Kitchen islands have been big news for a while now but designers are starting to rethink their sharp edges and straight lines in favour of more rounded alternatives that are more conducive to sitting around.
Architectural lighting
Kitchen lighting is sometimes overlooked but it can make the world of difference to the overall look and feel of your new kitchen. Kitchens need layered lighting that should include practical, task lighting for safe cooking and food preparation as well as mood lighting to create the right ambience for entertaining and dining along with feature lighting to provide a focal point. Modern pendant lighting over a curved island creates a modern, sculptured look that is very 2023.
Floor-to-ceiling cupboards
The space above our kitchen cupboards either collects dust or ends up being used to store kitchen items we don’t have space for, which can be unsightly and even downright dangerous if items topple off. Fortunately, 2023 kitchens are all about making use of this previously wasted space by incorporating floor-to-ceiling cupboards that maximise storage and look better too.
Brightly-coloured taps
Colourful kitchens can be a bit of a gamble - you may love it but what if you change your mind in a few years? Or what if decide to sell and find potential buyers are put off by your colour scheme? That’s why many people decide to keep tiles, cupboards and worktops fairly neutral. However, a new trend emerging for kitchens in 2023 is brightly-coloured taps in an otherwise neutral space to add a playful pop of colour without being overwhelming.
Textured finishes
Another big kitchen trend for 2023 is adding texture for a layered look that’s less sparse than the minimalist, hard lines of kitchens in recent years. This can be achieved by using mixed materials such as wood, concrete and stone together to create depth.
Hidden pantries
Pantries are nothing new but they don’t always fit in with modern, minimalist kitchens that require sleek lines. However, hidden pantries, that keep cooking essentials and ingredients close to hand but - crucially - out of sight are big news for 2023.
More Wood
Wood is on trend! If you want to go all-out with the wood look, consider adding a backsplash of natural stone. Wood is becoming a big part of the kitchen designs. If you look at the current trends, they are slowly becoming all about wood. This trend is not new but it has become more prominent this year and will continue to be next year as well. The reason for this is that wood has many benefits that make it a perfect choice for kitchen cabinets and other furniture. It is just so cozy and homey, so people are really leaning that way now!
Glass backsplashes
Glass backsplashes are also popular; they add light and style without taking up too much space in your kitchen. Glass is one of the most versatile materials out there because it comes in so many colors and styles. You can choose from clear, frosted, or textured glass tiles (or even marble!) to match your kitchen's aesthetic. Glass is beautiful and easy to clean, so it's a great choice if you want something modern and sleek.
Minimalistic Design
If you love simple design in your home, then minimalist kitchens are right up your alley. Minimalist kitchens often feature white cabinetry, stainless steel appliances and a light color palette overall. The goal is for everything in the room to be balanced and harmonious.
What’s Going Out of Style?
On the other end of the spectrum, what are the kitchen trends we’ll be saying goodbye to in 2023?
The all-white kitchen
Stark white kitchens have been very on-trend for a while now but designers predict these will be phased out and that homeowners looking for a neutral look will opt for warmer shades combined with wood for a less clinical, more natural feel.
Rustic Farmhouse kitchens
It’s time to say goodbye to rustic open shelving and hand painted signs, as farmhouse chic is another kitchen trend that’s reportedly being left behind in 2023. Farmhouse kitchens are going out of style this year. The look is classic, but it's not quite as popular as it once was. You will see more European country kitchen designs this year. If you're considering remodelling your kitchen this year, you may want to consider something new that's on trend instead of sticking with the same old look.
As 2022 winds down, the kitchen design community prepares to make room for the innovation and new ideas that 2023 has in store. It’s hard to predict exactly what next year’s biggest kitchen trends will be, but there are some early indicators that warn us what might be on the horizon. Whatever a designer may come up with, keeping an eye on the future will surely make next year’s kitchens more successful and progressive than ever before.
