How to Print the Pumpkin Stencil PDF
These printable pumpkin carving stencils are designed to make preparation as easy as possible.

- Use standard 8.5 × 11-inch printer paper.

How to Use a Pumpkin Carving Stencil
1. Choose the Right Pumpkin
Look for a fresh pumpkin with a firm stem and at least one smooth, fairly flat side. A smooth surface makes it much easier to tape down and transfer your stencil.
2. Prepare the Pumpkin
Have an adult cut an opening in the pumpkin. Remove the seeds and stringy pulp, then scrape the inside wall behind the carving area until it is approximately one inch thick.

3. Attach the Stencil
Trim away some of the excess paper surrounding the design. Tape the stencil securely to the smoothest side of the pumpkin.
Because pumpkins are curved, the paper may wrinkle slightly. Make a few small cuts around the outer edge of the paper so it can overlap and sit more smoothly against the pumpkin.
4. Transfer the Pattern
An adult can use a pushpin or stencil transfer tool to make small holes along the edges of the black shapes. Keep the holes close enough together that the outline will be easy to follow after removing the paper.
For very young children, an adult should complete this step too.
5. Carve the Black Areas
Remove the paper and follow the dotted outline with a small serrated pumpkin carving saw. The black areas on these templates are the sections that should be removed.
Begin with the smallest shapes and work toward the larger sections. Carving slowly will give you cleaner edges and help protect the uncarved parts of the design.
6. Light Your Pumpkin
Place a battery-operated LED light inside the finished pumpkin. Turn off the lights and watch your child's design glow!
