One thing I find when trying to live a dairy-free life is that I tend to lean towards a lot of vegan options because then I know there is no dairy in the ingredients. This saves me the time (no need to filter through the smallest printed ingredient list on the back of a package) and I know that it won't upset my stomach!
Dairy and I do not get along. Dairy hates my guts... literally. Which is why all my recipes here on my blog are dairy-free! Ever since I switched to a dairy-free diet, I have seen a major change in my overall health. The main one being my eczema and my asthma.
I have suffered from severe eczema and occasional asthma attacks my entire life. Ever since I have deleted dairy from my diet, my eczema has COMPLETELY cleared up. I use to have it so bad that it would leave scar my arms, but now my skin is entirely smooth and not dry. Also, my asthma attacks have decreased drastically. I can tolerate allergens that use to trigger my asthma constantly such as dust and cats. It's actually incredible. Seeing these changes in my health really encouraged me to continue with my dairy-free lifestyle.
Another huge change was my bloating. I use to get so bloated that it actually hurt sometimes! I just figured it was my irritable bowel syndrome acting up but little did I know that it was the milk I added in my cereal. Ever since I deleted the dairy, my stomach is SO much flatter, which not only makes me feel better on the inside but also makes me look better on the outside. WINNING.
I find it hardest, during the holidays, to find desserts or treats that fit my dietary regime. Although, at the same time I find it super fun tricking my family into eating something that is delicious and also healthy. Obviously I tell them after they have inhaled the entire bowl of Peanut Butter Banana Ice Cream that there actually isn't any "ice cream" or even dairy in it all. Their faces are always priceless!
